Here I sit again at “Harvey” the name I have given our Computer. He awaits my directions. Sometimes he is balky and he is always honest. Frankly I am embarrassed at his responses and patience. I must develop more tolerance and patience too; and study the books in our computer lab.

Marveling at his responsive abilities, I stand in awe of all the implications of the computer age. The politicians just send me polite responses. They do know, however, that I exist and am concerned as a citizen , not only of America but of the world.

Congressmen know how to speak out of both sides of their mouths. Recent revelations indicate that the people of wealth influence political leaders actions so much more than mine.

I am deeply grateful for my few friends and particularly my children and grandchildren who are dragging me screaming into the new century of instantaneous communication. I am disturbed that so few of my College classmates of 66 years ago, who

e still alive, are willing to learn how write “E’ Letters and “Surf the Newtwork.”

The thought that engages me the most, now that I am over 90, is how to use my time. Carol, my soul-mate for nearly 65 years has been given added time, too, as her Leukemia is now in “Recession.” While she was passing through the ‘shadows of death,” she resolved to spend more time, if given the privilege, in painting, reading and cultivating new and old friends and her family. Our 4 children have given her a “Cell Phone” with unlimited use. They pay the bills!

Here on my “Pink Palace” Campus, I could just play and read, eat, visit, and hone my skills . I did play the Ukulele, but have now given it away feeling it was not suitable for my new environment. I attend plays, concerts, ball games lectures etc.

Maybe that’s what old people are supposed to do. In ancient Greece, every person in teen years spent time in the military, then had training for productive work in their middle years, followed by a return to studies in the arts until death came.

A couple of times Carol and I have gone to the Desert . I’ve seen the huge golf links, Casinos, Tennis Courts and the crowds parked for these activities. At seven a.m. when I was walking by a gated community, I watched five men drive up to a golf tee mound in their cute, beautifully festooned golf carts. Around the tee were the most beautiful flowers I have ever seen in spring…with a gurgling waterfall running by the lifted up mound of green grass beautifully manicured. I watched these men greet one another and then each of them teed off. They all got back into their carts and left for the next Tee.

Frankly ,that doesn’t’ appeal to me. I do enjoy walking the Beach, studying the surfers, drifting sand, kelp and Ocean life three mornings a week. Like the monasterians, I spend a lot of time in prayer for my world.

In my thinking, we are one family. Like the Dinosaurs, there is danger that we will not adapt and change our behavior patterns. This is One World as Wendell Wilkie, a Presidential candidate, once said.

We cannot go on killing, abusing, and destroying the Earth. To me, we are poor stewards and we are accountable to the benevolent Creator and Sustainer. We high-grade animals with volitional choice can choose: will ,create , dream., and accomplish changes that are ethically pleasing and affirming of the human race. Believing that we are made of “StarDust’ from the Big Bang Explosion, We can be intelligently selfish and conquer our greed ,and make the tomorrow better for all mankind.
